Climate Ready Regions
Scotland’s Third National Adaptation Plan 2024-2029 (SNAP3) sets out an ambition to work with local government and a broad range of partners to expand Climate Ready partnerships to all regions in Scotland by 2029. The Climate Ready Regions project is a Scottish Government initiative designed to support the creation of regional partnerships to deliver interventions and climate-resilient economic development.
Seven Climate Ready Region principles guide
how partnerships work:
- Partnerships help organisations collaborate on effective, inclusive adaptation action
- Each region is unique but can learn from shared knowledge and experience
- Local leadership and ownership are vital, with multi-sector buy-in and diverse community participation
- Partnerships benefit from existing regional structures where available
- Climate adaptation should integrate with wider place-making and economic development
- Partnerships should drive adaptation that protects health, wellbeing and equity as part of Scotland’s just transition
- Effective collaboration takes time and needs resourcing from multiple sources
